More African vistas, aardvark holes and rhino midden.

Photos of the aardvark hole and rhino midden were taken in the Weenen Game Reserve two days ago.

An Aardvark, (also known as an ant bears), hole. Aardvarks a big, placid animals that live on a diet of termites, using their powerful digging claws to break open termite mounds. Some times they tunnel into the mound as  seen above. These aardvark holes are used by other animals as dens. Jackals, porcupines and even African rock pythons make use of them. The one above was in use by some animal, but there was no way I was going to stick my head in to have a look.

Aardvark, mostly a nocturnal animal. Picture National Geographic.

Rhinos use only one or two place as a toilet, this is called a midden. In the foreground some fresh rhino dung. After doing his business a rhino kicks the dung backwards onto the midden.

Hi Phillip. Always interesting stuff. Can't imagine why you wouldn't take a look in the hole? Just kidding.
