I can remember being very puzzled about this when I was a child. My father, who explained all kinds of things to us quite satisfactorily, was on uncertain ground when it came to the hookah and why the caterpillar smoked it.K
I never read Alice & Wonderland (dare I admit it, lol). Like Kay, I'd wonder why the caterpillar smoked the hookah?
