Fly fishing quotes

Went yesterday and bought my monthly fix of fly fishing magazines. One of the magazines "The complete fly fisher man," has a monthly column at the back of the magazine By Andrew Levy. This months column was titled "Quotable quotes." Thought I would share some of them with you.

"There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, other when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home." Roderick Haig-Brown.

"If I'm not going to catch anything, then I'd rather not catch anything on flies." Bob Lawless.

"If you fish the wrong fly long and hard enough, sooner or later it will become the right fly." John Gierach.

This one often refers to me;

"... the fish and I were both stunned and disbelieving to find ourselves connected by a line." William Humphrey.

"To him, all good things - trout as well as eternal salvation - come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy." Norman Maclean author of A River Runs Through It.

"Poets talk about 'spots of time', but it is really fishermen who experience eternity compressed into a moment. No one can tell what a spot of time is until suddenly the whole world is fish and the fish is gone." Norman Maclean from the same book.

Which angler has not experienced a moment as described in the last quote.

Wonderful, Phillip. I've always loved Roderick Haig-Brown; and Norman Maclean's "A River Runs Through It" was a wonderful book, made into a beautiful movie.
The William Humphrey quotation suits me and my fishing style (or lack of style, Dad would have said).

It's that one spot where you have a fish on and then the fly is wizzing by your head. That is a great movie.

A broken watch is correct twice a day and eventually my fly choice will work. I found a cure for my fishing magazine addiction... my extensive blog roll.
Thank You Phillip.

Your first quote is like the one I've heard, "Even a bad day of fishing beats a good day at the office." (I've heard the same said about hunting, too.)
