Yesterdays walk.

Some photos yesterdays evening walk.

The mega pivot at work, each nozzle delivers about 15 gallons a minute. The middle of this pivot is out of sight over the curve of the hill.

I was always under the impression that centre pivot systems needed level ground to be able to work effectively. On this farm I found that is not so, this pivot covers some pretty rough ground. The pivot moves in an anti-clock wise direction, in the photo above that is to the right. From the point where the pivot is now it starts to go down hill, almost a 40 degree slope, it crosses several very big contour ridges but nothing stops this thing, it just keeps moving inexorably  on.

A view of the pivot from the other side.

When I asked the farmer if all the wild ducks and gees that are eating his wheat bother him, he said; "no, it will soon outgrow them". Here only the heads of a pair of African shell duck show above the fast growing wheat.

Long shadows, there are hundreds of trees on this farm.

A good night wink from the sun.

No choice.

I just don't know what title to give this post, I wasn't going to take another sunset photo ever! But I just had no choice but to record what I saw.

There are 31 photos between this first photo and the last one. None of these photos have been changed in any way.

The lord paints I just record.

Just another African sunset.

Well maybe it's not just another sunset, every one is unique and no two the same.

Sunset and moon rise.

Went out with the dogs for our evening constitutional as usual and took photos of the sunset. The Italian leprechaun who walks with us said to me, "turn round and look behind you". There was the full moon rising in all it's glory.

Looking north, a marbled sky.

The full moon, just scraping over the top of the trees.

More photos of yesterday's sunset.

Some more photos I took yesterday, went out again this evening but the light was totally different.

Silage cutter cutting maize for silage. Watching the two machines was like watching ballet. The tractor had to keep adjusting it's position so that the chopped maize was spread evenly in the trailer. These two machines were moving at speed just to make it more interesting.

The cutting of the maize has opened in new vistas.

Jock of the Bushveld, I mean Bruno of the maize fields admiring the sunset.

"Blue, blue, my world is blue".

Sleeping giant. Giants Castle mountain peaks, about 60 km away as the crow flies, and about 3000 meters high, (10,000 feet).

Crepuscular rays, looking direct east. These rays are the result of the sun setting behind clouds, and peaks in the mountains in the west. The blue is a shadow of a peak, or cloud, the rays are parallel but seem to converge on the horizon.

Sunset walk.

Another stunning sunset over northern Berg.

This photo must be enlarged.

The light this evening just got better and better, I took 224 photo graphs.

HDR sunset.

Took this photo on Sunday evening, apart from the orange glow in the west it was virtually dark, three different exposures the longest of which took 10 seconds to get enough light in the exposure.

Sunset cloud-scape's.

All these photos are HDR, (High Dynamic Resolution) at least 3 different exposures blended together.

Agricultural sky.

This photo consist of four, slightly out of sync exposures. I suppose one could call it a cloud sculpture.

The aliens are coming, the mother ship is hovering just above these clouds.

Sunsets.

On Saturday and Sunday I went out and photographed sunsets among other things.

The photo above was taken on Saturday, late in the evening. The sun was going down just behind my left shoulder, with a few rays coming through beneath the low clouds. Those clouds were not just empty threats, during the night it started to rain and continued until 11 am the next day.

This photo, taken yesterday, looks as it could have been taken on Mars or some other strange planet, but this is how it looked. The sun had just gone behind a thick cloud-bank, creating an almost eclipse of the sun effect. The light was very erie with the cloud patterns and colour adding to the strangeness. In the foreground is a field that has been lying fallow for more than six months, with sparse, almost desert liked plant growth, also adding to the weird effect.

A more conventional sunset taken about thirty minutes later than the one above.

Sunset over Pietermaritzburg.

Spent yesterday afternoon and last night with my brother at his home in Pietermaritzburg.  While we were sitting on the veranda drinking a cup of coffee I took these photos of the sun setting over the town.

Sun behind the clouds.

A little while later the sun shone through below the clouds and soon after disappeared below the horizon.

Abstract silhouettes.

Went looking for some thing different to photograph this afternoon, waited until the sun was low on the horizon and took these photos against the light reflected off the water.

Grass stems with the last grass seed glistening in the reflected light.

Silhouette of willow branches, the "shadows" in the background are out of focus willow twigs.

Ripples on the water looking like molten silver.

Reflections

Walked down to the small pond just below the cottage and tried to capture some late evening reflections in the water.

Reflection of the leafless willow tree that stands on the dam wall, with a slight rosy glow on the water from the sunset.

Willow tree trunk reflection.

Reflection of reeds.

Sunset silhouettes II

Went back to the spot where I took day before yesterdays sunset silhouettes, to take some more. There is a small man made hillock on top of which is the reservoir for the farms water supply. From this position one gets a clear view to the west and north west, perfect for sunset photos.

One of the things I've realised is that I need a tripod, it's impossible to keep a handheld camera steady while you try to compose a photo. So this morning the Italian Leprechaun and I are going to the big city and I'm going to buy one.

It's the Italian Leprechaun's, (aka Enrico Bucceri) 60th birthday next week so when we get back we will have an early birthday celebration.

I liked the curves of this one.

Fan against the sun, a bit like the Phoenix rising from the fire.

One of the tips I picked up from a photographic web site is to set your camera to the cloudy day setting when taking photos of sunsets, it warms the colours a bit more.

Last light,

Autumn sunset and cosmos.

Woke up this morning to the new "improved" version of blogger, YUCK!! Why do they have to scratch where it don't itch?

While the dogs and I were out walking late yesterday I was intrigued by the golden glow and quality of the light. I tried to capture it in these photographs.

Almost looks as if these trees are burning.

Golden lining.

Sometimes clouds have a golden lining.

Took this photo at about 6:40 on Wednesday evening.
