Sister moon.

After a lot of brother sun, now it's sister moons turn.

These photos were taken 3 days ago at full moon.

Three photos.

Three photos, one day.

Moon in a pink sky.

Last rays of the sun setting these pine needles aflame.

Two hours later, moody moon, with earth shine on the dark side of the moon.

"Here dies another day"

Went to tease the small mouth bass in the farm dam, but ended up having the bass tease me, by slowly swimming up to my fly, give it a cursory glance and swim away with a lazy flick of the tail. At least they showed some interest.

Walking home in the gloaming I saw the moon peeping out behind some clouds. For several weeks now we've had severe thunderstorms every evening so the evening sky hasn't been visible for a while.

                Here dies another day
During which I had eyes, ears and hands
                And the great world around me;
                And tomorrow brings another.
                Why am I allowed two?

More moonlight photos/hoiday.

I'm off on a bit of a holiday on the Natal South Coast at the little village of Port Edward tomorrow. Have the use of a two bedroom cottage a few hundred meters from miles of deserted beaches, at the princely price of R150 per day, about $17 US. We have 10 days school holiday at the moment and prices for accommodation on the South Coast usually run in the R1000+ per day range at this time of the year, depending on the type of accommodation. How did I manage that? Well as the old saying goes, "it's not what you know, it's who you know."

Taking my 9 weight fly rod with salt water flies and also my Drop Shot rod with salt water spinning reel filled with 30kg braid. Will have my camera with me so I'll take lots of photos, who knows I might just get lucky and catch a few Shad in the surf, (known as Blue Fish in the US and Australia).

Leaving tomorrow at about 8am and will get there at around 12pm. My friend Jane from Durban will be joining me with her geriatric cat and her two geriatric dogs.

Last night I walked down to the pond just below the cottage to take a few more moonlight photos.

The moon seems stuck in the branches.

There is an old Bushman story of a praying mantis who sat in a thorn tree one night trying to catch the moon while it struggled  through the thorns and branches. He was hoping to ride on the moon and be worshiped by the other animals as a god. He forgot he was only a small insect.

Reflection.

Not succeeding in the tree the mantis tried to catch the moon while it was stuck in the water, but as he grabbed the moon's reflection it shattered sending shards of moonlight into his eyes, blinding him. Only after apologizing to the Great God for his temerity was his sight restored.

The lights on the horizon are part of the town of Estcourt.

Moon with Halo.

When I let the dogs out late last night I saw the moon shining through a thin layer of cloud.

The cloud created this halo, almost a round rainbow.

Reflection and blue moon.

Getting brave with my camera now taking my photos in complete manual mode.

Blue moon. Apart from adding a little contrast to make the craters stand out more, no editing was done to this photo. That was the colour of the sky and the moon when I took the photo at about 5:10pm. When I saw it the title and tune from a Country & Western song came into my head, "Blue moon of Kentucky." Can't remember the words but the tune was there in my head. (That really shows my age).

Reflection of a cell phone tower in a pond. This tower is almost a kilometre from the pond. Did a little retouching here to get a bit more shimmer effect, the ripple was there already.

Half moon and vagaries of the weather.

Last night the Italian Leprechaun and I had one of our regular "braais", (BBQ). This is when we open a few beers, chew the fat, (literally and figuratively), and generally solve the Worlds problems. The sky was overcast but it did not look like rain, suddenly - it took only a few minutes - the clouds disappeared and the moon became visible. I grabbed my camera and took a few photos.

Just as fast as the clouds disappeared they gathered again.

The photo above has a hazy, almost halo effect around the moon due to the rapidly gathering clouds. These two photos were taken minutes apart. Within minutes it was completely overcast and it started to rain. We carried our BBQ equipment onto the far edge of the veranda and lit the fire.

It's 09:45 am and still raining and cold, just letting us know winter is on it's way.

Crescent moon.

If I thought that my camera was good before these photos, at three different exposures, really  blew my socks off!! I never expected such detail. Taken Sunday evening 29th at +- 6:45.

Click on these photos to enlarge and really see the detail.

The photo above taken at the correct setting according to the cameras auto setting.

This photo slightly under exposed.

The last photo slightly over exposed.

Moonrise

Coming home from my evening walk with the dogs I noticed the moon rising.

Seems to be peeping through the branches as If it can't make up it's mind to show itself.

Reflections.

I was in a reflective mood this evening when I took my dogs for their regular walk, took my spinning rod instead of the fly rod. Between flicking the plastic lure over the water I reflected on many things, life, getting old, God, religion, work and a million other things. It was just one of those reflective evenings. My dogs were more intelligent, they just enjoyed what was.

The fish must have been in a reflective mood to, not one bothered to look at the lure.

Cell phone tower and sunset reflected on the water.
